What is SEO?
It has to do with how Google and other search engines decide what pages, posts, and websites they are going to show someone when they search a specific word or phrase. Search engines ranking pages, which we’ll also refer to as SERPs, want to show their searchers what they think will be the absolute best sites for specific queries at the top of the search pages. 

To do this, they all have an exhaustive algorithm that takes into account countless items when deciding which pages to show. Of course, they look at the content of the page to make sure it has the information that will answer the searcher’s query. They look at:

Content:  Obviously, they look for detailed content that relates to the search. They also want it to be well-written, new, and fresh.
Structure:  SERPs don’t want to send their searchers to shitty sites. If the site has endless pop ups, a design that can’t be read on mobile devices, or a slow load time, then they are going to be less likely to display it. 
Reputation of the domain: If a SERP has deemed this domain not to be reputable because maybe they’ve found nefarious things like spammy ads, non-kosher keyword stuffing, or cloaking, they are less likely to show this site to their teachers. Likewise, if they see things good for your reputation, like that other reputable sites are sharing links to your site or that your domain has been in good standing for many years, then that means they are more likely to show it. 

So, what does all this mean for your blog?

Well, every day millions upon millions of search engine spiders are crawling websites determining their content, keywords, and rank so that they can display or not display them to searchers. As a blogger, it’s good to have an understanding of simple things you can be doing every day to improve your blog’s visibility through SEO.

My advice for any new website is to use WordPress. First of all, it’s free, unlike SquareSpace which costs money to use and locks you into their hosting provider. With a WordPress website, you can move it to any hosting provider (whether it be Bluehost or Hostgator when you first start out) or WPEngine when you really grow your blog and have a ton of traffic.

The really daunting task is shooting good photos and videos and telling stories as a travel blogger. I started out blogging not knowing a thing about how to shoot photos or videos but thanks to Youtube, I was able to teach myself everything I needed to learn. I suggest you do the same thing, start searching on YouTube and teach yourself.

In this video, I walk you through exactly what my steps are to starting and making money with your own travel blog.

I’ve tried almost every possible Monetization strategy and these are my proven methods that work for me:

Affiliate marketing where you get paid a commission for selling something
Paid advertisements like Crest paying me to review their white strips
Adsense revenue which I get from people watching this video and clicking on ads on my website
Freelancing: taking photos, building websites or providing consulting to small businesses
Selling a product: I have a style guide I created last year and it sells a couple of copies every month

And when you do your videos, it would be really hard for someone like me or anyone else to copy your knowledge base and expertise
– Besides travel bags you could also focus on bug spray, sunscreen, backup batteries, etc find something you’re interested in and own it

Are you tired of writing content that no one is reading? Well if you follow these 7 steps, people will start reading and sharing your content.

Step 1: Write with the words “you” and “I”. It makes the reader feel like you are having a conversation with them, which causes them to read more. This is a popular blog writing technique as this type of storytelling connects with readers.

Step 2: Your paragraphs can’t be more than 5 or 6 lines. Long paragraphs seem overwhelming which discourages people from reading.

Step 3: Use sub-headings. Sub-headings make your content easier to skim. But, great bloggers know how to tell stories with their subheadings. This helps to engage readers by drawing them into your blog content.

Step 4: Write a conclusion. By having a conclusion people will know what your blog post is about. Many readers scroll down, read the conclusion first and then the rest of the blog post.

Step 5: Cite your facts. When you are using facts, make sure you cite them. If you don’t you won’t build credibility, which means your readers won’t trust you.

Step 6: Use pictures. Popular bloggers know that a picture says 1000 words. So why not use images to convey your message.

Step 7: Write thorough/actionable content. If people gain value from your blog they will come back for more. If you are writing fluff, readers will bounce off your site and never come back.
