Sense Of Urgency: What If This Was Your Last Day On Earth?
Here’s why you should act with a sense of urgency in your business, and in your life at all times.
Dean Holland explains here, his realisation that urgency and not putting things off is one of the most critically important lessons in business, and in life…
“Back in the UK and en route to the Internet Profits headquarters.
I just got back, as you’ll know if you’ve been following along, from a ‘Mastermind’ week in the United States.
And I want to share with you today the…
One Big Thing I Can’t Get Out Of My Head
I’m gonna dedicate today’s Drive to the person that actually shared this with me. So let’s do this!
Alright, so it’s Dean here. Welcome on this journey. What a whirlwind week it has been! So many amazing people I’ve just spent the last week with. Learning so much from these people. Loved sharing value with everybody as well, and just ‘Masterminding’ on our businesses.
It’s just incredible, y’know, when you can get yourself around like-minded people that are all passionate about what they do, that are all striving forwards and committed to changing the lives of other people through their products and services that they offer.
And I’ve been thinking these last couple of days since being back;
What Are The Key Takeaways?
Obviously you hear a lot of things, you consume a lot of information at these types of Mastermind events. But the key really is that I’ve learned, is like you almost need to have a filter.
So you’ve got to filter… What stuff you retain, and what stuff you say, “That’s great, but I don’t need to think about that right now. Let’s leave it there and come back to that in future.”
And there’s so much that I am going to be sharing over these next few posts with you. I thought today I’m gonna kick it off with…
The One Big Thing That Can Just Be Applied By Anybody
And everybody should apply this. In fact I want to dedicate this to the guy that they shared this with the group – now a good friend of mine, Brian Bowman.
So Brian, if you see this I want you to know how much of an impact your words really have made. And I hope you don’t mind me sharing this with our audience, and dedicating this Drive episode to you, my friend.
Brian actually stood up in front of the group. This is the format of how the Mastermind works. Everybody gets about 30 minutes, stands up in front of the group, and shares some value with the group. And then basically asks for some value in return.
Y’know… “Here’s something I want to share with you, that I think could help.” And then, “Here are the areas I could do with some advice on.” And then the group all contributes.
Brian shared a very personal story. I’m not going to go into the details of that, y’know, that’s Brian’s business. But the lesson that came from Brian’s story is something I’d like to share, if that’s okay. And that is to…
Act With A Sense Of Urgency At All Times!
I know this sounds simple, but I really want you to think about this the way that Brian had us all think about it. I suppose without the context of the background of it, it won’t be as powerful or impactful.
But I’m going to explain it in my own little way – my interpretation of this. All too often, all of us, throughout our lives, we just sometimes drift. Or we don’t act like something is urgent.
Let me put it this way, if I put a gun to your head and told you, “Right, if you don’t do the things that have to be done today…
“I’m Going To Pull This Trigger And Shoot You!”
Would you get it done? You would, right? Or let’s just say if you knew you had six months to live, would you just sit there thinking about things, or would you get out and do whatever it is that you wanted to do? You’d do it, right?
And so this is the real point here. All too often people are saying, “Oh, I would like to do that.” Or, “In a year’s time this is what I’m going to do.” Or in two years time, or in three years time, y’know.
Everybody’s acting as if tomorrow is guaranteed. And next year you’ll be in the same situation – everybody’s acting like there’s no sense of urgency.
I’m not saying that…
Everybody’s Going To Die In Six Months!
…Or terrible things could happen. But why take a chance? Why take that chance, that the way you wish you could live, all the actions you know you should take… why not take them today?
Why put these things off? If you’ve got a to-do list, and you see your to-do list in your business isn’t getting done and you think, “Ah, it’s okay, I can get that done tomorrow.” Well, what if tomorrow never came?
The way Brian delivered this message was in a much more impactful way. But ultimately the message still stands. You need to act with a sense of urgency on every area of your life and business, every single day. Because…
You Just Don’t Know What’s Around The Corner
Y’know, we really don’t. And so don’t keep putting things off.
Don’t act like tomorrow’s guaranteed. Don’t act like you’ve got all the time in the world. Because the truth is, none of us have all the time in the world, and we don’t know how much time is on that counter that’s ticking down.
So that’s my message for today. Thank you for sharing that with us Brian, if you do see this. Ultimately, it’s time to act with a sense of urgency in every area of your life, and every area of your business. Because we never know what’s around the corner.
So with that said I’m here at Internet Profits HQ. I’m excited to be back and excited to crush all of our goals with a sense of urgency! Talk to you soon about “Website Conversion Optimisation: Warning! This Will NOT Work For You” in the next episode.
